The big 30!! 2013

A warm hearted hallo to all our faithful blog viewers.  Brrrr, I think tonight is the perfect night to sit in front of the fireplace under a blanket and sip on hot choc with marshmallows...mmm!!  Well, back to reality, I'm still a bit shocked to realize that we are already saying good-bye to July... seriously.. it felt like only yesterday was the 1st!?!  But I'm sure we are all very ready to say good-bye to winter, I know I'm looking forward to spring...

July marked the end of our Mission Service training and the start of our new course, Gateway To Africa (GTA).  It seemed almost impossible to have a more intense program than our previous term, but our schedule is so fully packed, we're having week upon week of 8am to 5pm training.  As they are preparing us for our very first 6 week outreach starting in October, you can imagine the reason for such intense training...

July also marked a very important event... Johan turned 30!!!  He was spoiled (rotten) with a few of his favourite things, which includes a lot of eating, a great evening with special friends and then some more eating... (see pics below).  Thank you for all your phone calls, messages and Facebook posts!!

And then, we also have a little surprise for you all.  We made a short video to say thank you to all our partners for your on-going support, love and prayers.  You support mobilises us to fulfil the purpose God has for us as a family, to go to the nations and make disciples...

On one of the photos in the video clip you'll see Eben (our fellow student) laying hands on a women.  Her name is Hazel and she lives in the Msholozi community just outside White River.  She is a 33 year old single mother and has been blind for the past 5 years.  It was such a privilege to meet her and she was a true inspiration to all of us.  During one of our visits to her house we asked her what we could pray for her other than her sight to be restored, she responded with:  "please pray that my son will know that I still love him, because before I became blind, I used to do so many things with him, which I now can't do anymore" - heart-breaking....  She has no electricity or running water and has to stay alone at home the whole day until her mother comes back from work to care for her.  And yet she is ALWAYS smiling, friendly and so thankful for the little that she's got.  She remains faithful in trusting God for her eyesight to be restored.  Amazing...  Please join in prayer with us for God to give her a brand  new set of eyes!!

Some of the staff and students joining in prayer and singing for Johan on his birthday.

In our small groups we have a tradition of making birthday hats for the birthday boys and girls and they have to wear it on campus all day.  Johan got a "rice patty" Chinese hat...  I think the style suit him very well... hahaha!!!

Mmmhh, how about a homemade sausage/cheese/egg "McMuffin" for breakfast... with a sparkler!!  A special breakfast for a special boy...

And then homemade tortillas with Jo and Terry for dinner....  and you can choose, will it be..

... chicken or beef, hot or not....

And what would a birthday be without some good old calorie loaded brownies... I told you there was lots of eating (and I didn't even show you the half of it)!!  Thanks again Jo and Terry for a great evening!!! xoxo

We wish you all the best for the month of August, may it be filled with God's rich love, grace and blessing.  Lots of love xoxox
