Life Soup....

Well I've certainly put off writing this blog for as long as possible.... There is something about putting your life on black and white, which seems to make some particulars all too real... (REAL: actually existing as a thing or occurring in fact; not imagined or supposed)....yikes!! You have to revisit past times, memories, events and of course emotions.... I imagine it as having to sort through a bowl of 'Tom Yang Goong' (a SERIOUSLY fiery Thai seafood soup) .... Although it burns without mercy, it's still pleasurable (life in general). Luckily you can order a serving of rice on the side to cool your mouth down every now and then (those revivifying moments). So wonderful is the moment when you get to a raw piece of ginger, it's so tasty it stings (the exciting moment when I enjoy a chocolate). And then..... a mushroom raises it unsavoury head which was subdued by the piece of ginger (when all sorts of 'REAL' things happen). Next up is the galangal...

Our last 6 months on the mission field was an extremely difficult time for me. Being a cross-cultural missionary has constant challenges. And having had no break since we arrived in 2015 combined with a melancholic personality turned out to be quite a deadly combination. So just imagine what a blessing it was to us when both our parents decided to sponsor our very first furlough! It was a much needed break, and we had a fantastic time back in South-Africa. It was so uplifting to be in an environment where we are loved and supported. Being surrounded by people of the same nationality, language, religion, worldview and likes has a sort of enchantment to it, which you only realize when you are suddenly completely cut-off from it. Though we haven't spent as much time with all of you as we would've liked, we do cherish every moment we did have, and would like to thank you again for it! A very special thanks to our families for spoiling us and going...

Starting with a Bang

Oh boy am I glad that January's all done and dusted! The new year started off with so many changes and challenges for us that I already need a break... hahaha! Just as we adjusted to our once more empty house, after my sister-in-law left, all sorts of changes came about. The church moved from being in a detached house (in our terms, a normal house with a yard) to a single room on the second story (of some insurance business) without any windows. This had an impact on everyone! (See the bottom for a brief 'then and now' about the church). Now the church is no longer within sight of the whole (Buddhist) community, but secretly tucked away in a room somewhere. We lost 2 valuable members who used to live at church and now had to go back to their home-towns. Our Bible study had to move to our house, as well as our Thai language classes. Our weekly free English learning classes (which mainly consist of Buddhists) are pending, etc etc etc. It is so terrible to see the...
