Visitors and Victories 2013

Finally we had some visitors from home in February... Our first visit was from Pastor Johan and Sandra!!  They were the first familiar faces we've seen since we moved and they treated us to a delicious lunch at Spur.  And of course we were lavished with love, hugs and presents!!  Thank you again!!

Our second visit was from my parents, and oh were they a sight for sore eyes... It was soooo wonderful to see them again and I wished they would never go home...haha!!  They spoiled us and we had a great time together.  (Pa en ma:  weereens baie dankie, ons is baie lief vir julle!!)

To my in-laws, thank you so much for sending my favorite (biltong) as well as all the other goodies!! xxx

Last but not least to auntie Frieda and Melissa thank you so much for all the yummy stuff you baked, it was a fantastic surprise!! xxx

To all the other readers of our blog, I hope this post made you feel soooo guilty and that you are already planning when you're coming to visit us and of coarse you'll have to keep up the tradition and bring some home baked goodies with....Mwahhaha

On our last trip to the Kruger National Park which is only a 30 minute drive from where we stay we had the most awesome sighting of a leopard (the poor guy was wearing a tight collar).  We found him on a river bank just a few meters from the car, we stayed there until he got up for a drink and slowly walked off into the bush.  It was truly an amazing experience.

You know how we as humans every now and then decide to do something that is... well... not so bright?  Me, Johan and two fellow students decided to climb Legogote one Saturday.  It is the highest peak in the lowveld and you can actually see it from the Kruger National Park.  So we set off early morning without ANY equipment nor any EXPERIENCE.  Let's just say ... NEVER AGAIN!!!  The top part of the peak consists only of rock, slippery, wet and no place to hold on to.

(Below) If you look closely you'll manage to see what looks like a tiny black dot on top of the rock, that is the marker which you see behind us on the (Top) left and right photos.

Just for interests sake I've added the next photo which was taken a few days later from the opposite side of the valley.  You can see the peak of Legogote in the back.

This is Woody our little woodland Kingfisher.  He flew into the electric fence and was about to become food for a monitor lizard when Johan rescued him.  Unfortunately he died 2 days later, but we're happy to have had him.

Kaapse Hoop is a cute little town famous for their wild horses.  We visited there a few weeks ago and found some interesting things, like this guest house which in 1947 formed a part of the famous White train that transported the British Royal family on a tour through South Africa.  During the tour, Princess Elizabeth (now Queen Elizabeth II) turned 21 in Cape Town on the 21st of April.

The best part of staying in the lowveld. . . All the sight seeing!! Within an hours drive from where we stay into any direction, there is something fabulous to do and see!! Here's what we've been up to the past 2 months (other than studying, doing assignments and not getting enough sleep...haha)

This was at the botanical gardens in Nelspruit.

This past weekend we said goodbye to one of our friends (Shaun) here at ASM.  He is leaving for Isreal, so we thought it appropriate to send him off with a paintball game. (Yolandie did not play and I was all blue and purple afterwards, regretting the decision).

Shaun is the one begging for mercy.....

We also played a friendly football match against Phumelela Bible College. We had to import a few players from a ministry closely related to ASM, called Hands at Work.  Our opponents were very intimidating with outfits and the whole nine yards.  But after 70 (yes seventy) minutes ASM / Hands at Work won 6-5.  Our cheerleaders was great and the stiff legs the following morning was worth it !!
