Springtime!!! 2013

I think this is probably my most favourite time of the year.   With the arrival of spring we are finally saying good-bye to winter!!  It feels so satisfying to clear out my closet from boots, scarf's and coats to make space for all my brightly coloured favourites . . . aaaahh . . . bliss!!!

Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.  ~Doug Larson

August was a great month for us.  We were visited by my parents, and we had a special weekend of celebrating my mom's birthday.  And with them came so many gifts from our loved ones back at home, we needed to clear out some space in our cupboards to fit every thing in... Thanks so much to Sonja, Adriaan and Ria, Leon and Andra, Michael and Melissa, and the Lamprecht and Van Wyk parents for spoiling us.  It really is very encouraging to know that we are still in your thoughts and hearts!!

Academically wise we had a very special time as well, we spent every week with another specialist within their different fields and learned so much.  We met up with different Mission Organisations and Ministries on a national and international scale and it widened our perception and understanding on many different areas concerning missionary life and ministry.  We also did the Kairos course and had a very interesting Christian "Muslim" church service with the aim to give us a deeper understanding of the Islam faith and to discover the reasons behind so many of their traditions and practises.  It really was insightful and I never thought that my heart could grow soft towards these people whom I only ever viewed in a negative light.

During our second and third term we had such a tight schedule that we rarely could be involved in practical ministry.  But luckily we had some opportunities this past month and it was so good to get out into the community again and serve the people.  We spent some time again with Hazel's family in the Msholozi township and were so pleased to discover that they started with a veggie garden as a source of income.  We spent time helping out with watering the garden and praying and encouraging them.

We attended a big prayer meeting in the KNP against rhino poaching, it was a very serious 4 hour service.  We were all very moved when they shared with us that even though they are doing what they can with the resources that they have (which is quite good), it is impossible for them to stop the poaching, and that if God does not help them then they will fail in preserving the rhinos.  They shared that up until the 17th of August the number of rhinos that were poached (this year) in the Kruger alone was already at 365.  Please join us in prayer for the people that's responsible for protecting the rhinos, to constantly be one step ahead of the poachers and not to get discouraged.

Last but not least, we finished off August with a wonderful weekend.  We have friends working for Mercy Air and they asked us to look after their home (and cat) for the weekend.  It is situated just outside White River on a beautiful farm with a view of the surrounding mountains and forests... Need I say more..?

We wish you all a wonderfully sunny springtime... xxx
