Out there....

In this "deurmekaar" year of patiently (sometimes not so much) waiting for our visas, me and Johan have had to become 'a Jack of all trades'.  Among other things, we've been employed by our church which means serving on the Management team and working in the office on a regular basis, etc...

So I'm sure you can imagine that it was a cause of great joy for us to "get out there" again and enjoy a month of serving the local people and helping out at other ministries.

Our dear friends Wilhelm and Marish Steynberg run the local Bibleclub which serves about 380 children (of various races) in 11 different primary schools per week.  They are truly gifted for their ministry and the children adore them.  They focus a lot on building Basic Biblical Truth and Discipleship into the children's lives.

Here we are helping out with the "Wordless Book" and building boats out of balloons when sharing the story about Jesus that quieted the storm.  (Sigh... this made me miss the vulnerable children we worked with in Thailand so much) :(

Our local Church has a well established ministry for our senior members.  Johan served the seniors with communion at a local Old-age Home and I led two bible studies at their weekly connect groups.  Serving Afrikaans seniors is quite on the flip side of the coin from serving Indian and African children and catering for their different needs, but it remains a good way to stay flexible in ministry.  I'm sorry for not having a photo... use your imagination in stead...haha!!

We were contacted by our local High School (Erasmus) which ran a new course on Drug Awareness for this years grade 8's.  After 2 days of having the teenagers go through information sessions and listening to a personal testimony from a drug dealer turned pastor they had us and various other facilitators/ counselors come in to debrief the children in small intimate groups.  The whole idea was to give the children the opportunity to speak to someone openly about their drug abuse problems and if they desired to, they will be connected with the counselor on a weekly basis.  This being a field in which we are not experienced at all, it was quite obvious God had a plan.... haha!!

It was a great experience for us and two of the girls that I had spent time with, signed up for the weekly counseling sessions with me.  Although they do not seem to have a real drug abuse problem, it is my belief that these girls are desperate to talk to someone, about their struggles ,who will take the time to listen to them and give support and advise.... This is somewhat amusing to me since I don't particularly like to work with teenagers or to give counseling!!  But, since God has put this opportunity on my path, I desire to do it as best as I possibly can... So please pray for me!!

It is the greatest privilege to be able to bring hope to people, the only real hope that is Jesus Christ!!

Lots of love
